People always ask me how long it took for me to grow my hair and how I maintain the thickness and prevent my hair from breakage/hair loss. I’m here to share with you all my secrets and how I not only maintain my hair’s health, but also how I speed the growth. If you’re serious on having beautiful, long, damage-free hair, you have to be serious about getting rid of some habits, and adapting new ones!

YOUR HAIR BRUSH MATTERS

I only use wooden brushes over plastic/metal brushes because wooden brushes distribute the oils within your hair and help balance a shiny/glossy look. Additional benefits of owning a wooden brush will help get rid of dandruff and the static within your hair.

SCALP TREATMENTS ARE A MUST

Your scalp does all the work in trying to stimulate growth within your hair, so if you want to give it a boost of encouragement and help speed up the process, try a natural scalp treatment. I personally use the The Innate Life‘s Scalp Treatment since it contains more than 15 botanicals and plant-based oils which all help to grow, hydrate, and repair hair. I prefer The Innate Life over anything because of the purity within the ingredients and because I trust the company for what I’m putting on my hair. You can also make your own scalp treatment with coconut oil or a large egg. I show an in depth video on how I make a DIY Scalp Treatment to help grow your hair in ONE DAY/OVERNIGHT here.

ESSENTIAL OILS CHANGED MY LIFE (No joke)

screen-shot-2016-11-10-at-12-25-09-pmEssential oils serves as an alternative by replacing those hair masks filled with harmful chemicals while also acting as a pre-conditioner. I personally use The Innate Life Rose Hair Elixir which is filled with more than 15 essential oils mixed all together to induce the perfect oil for preventing hair loss, support hair growth, carries ingredients that mainly focus on thickening hair, and overall induces healthy looking hair with the balance of the oils. With just 4-5 drops of the serum, I apply it to my hair to help repair and hydrate the ends of my hair (make sure your hair is brushed out before you do this).

I leave the oils in my hair overnight or up to two hours in a soft braid or bun while washing it away in the shower.

HAIR MASSAGES

Massaging the scalp helps encourage the blood circulation in the head which as a result, promotes hair growth. There are many benefits for habitual hair massages because while it is therapeutic, it also lowers stress levels which allows your organs to work more sufficiently leading to fast hair growth!

And if your hair looks a little crazy and messy afterwards, that’s a good sign that you did your hair a favor.

YOUR SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER MATTERS

screen-shot-2016-11-10-at-12-43-18-pmChoosing the right shampoo is VERY important. Once I discontinued using artificial and cheap shampoos, I bought natural shampoos from the brand Calia. It was a true investment especially because it did wonders for my hair. Given the fact that they use authentic and natural ingredients, they are more than affordable. The great benefits these shampoo and conditioners have are the essential oils in the ingredients which help balance and moisturize damaged and frizzy hair.  There are thousands of hair products to help treat damaged hair, but the problem with those products are that they use unauthentic ingredients and chemicals, while also using sulfate and sodium chloride which are harsh on hair leading to damage! Who knew that your shampoo can be a primary cause to your split hair! These are also ingredients that require to test on animals so no wonder they are so harsh! Calia hair products are completely natural, carry essential ingredients, and are cruelty-free due to the authenticity and purity within their products! I personally use the Calia organic hydrating shampoo along with it’s organic hydrating conditioner.

HAVE A DAILY HAIR RINSE

While I’m in the shower, I always take four tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into a jar with the rest filled with water (1 cup). At the end of conditioning my hair, I first dip my hair into the cup filled with apple cider vinegar and pour the rest onto my hair (try not to get this in your eyes, as it will sting a lot). I wait 3-5 minutes for the apple cider to seep into my hair while rinsing it afterwards.

STAY AWAY FROM HEAT

This is one of the hardest steps that I had to try and overcome, but I committed myself to put away the heat for up to one year. My hair changed entirely after that decision. I am not trying to tell you to give up your hair straightener for a whole year, or to never use heat on your hair again because that’s just unrealistic. But I urge you to reduce the amount of heat you apply to your hair as this is the main cause of hair loss, hair damage, and as a whole, prevents hair growth! It’s the worst thing you can do for your hair because applying heat will suck the hydration right out which is why your hair has becomes dry, frizzy, and split. You don’t need to cut heat out of your hair routine the same way you shouldn’t cut out carbs from your life. But if you want healthy long hair, you have to stop the continuous straightening and curling. When I’m out of the shower, I like to let my hair air dry without any heat while this will leave some natural & beachy waves in my hair. Work it girl.

Try rocking some heatless hair styles (like braids) to avoid straightening your hair to give it style. The Rose Hair Elixir from The Innate Life serves as a great way of styling your hair while taming the frizziness.

YOUR HEALTH

Your health matters, but compared to treating hair directly with the products I’ve mentioned above, it wouldn’t be the main priority you need to focus on for healthy hair. Of course, establishing a healthy lifestyle should always be your number one goal, as should your health. However, if I were to give advice related to health, it would be to drink as much water as you can because this will ensure hydration for your hair as well as your skin, and bring back the shininess within your hair!

THE END (It’s about damn time)

There you have it! Those are my tips on how I maintain my hair health, and ways to encourage long and healthy hair. Hope you found these tips helpful. I know it’s a lot to take in, and a lot of work, but your hair should be something you treasure and take care of especially because you wear it everyday! Besides, I believe hair is one of the most unique and beautiful features of people, right after their personality, of course.
